Riders Entertain Community With Horses' Christmas

WEYERS CAVE, Va. -  On Sunday, Dec. 6, the Equestrian Club of Bridgewater College presented its Eighth Annual Horses Christmas at the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center. A large number of community members braved the snow and cold to attend the 1:00 p.m. event.

This year the theme was Christmas Carols and eight different groups came up with ways to dress horses and themselves up in costumes that matched different carols. The different skits were:

  • 1. Alvin and the Chipmunks
  • 2. Charlie Brown Christmas
  • 3. Frosty the Snowman
  • 4. Mr. Grinch
  • 5. Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
  • 6. Jingle Bell Rock
  • 7. Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
  • 8. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

The judges for the event were Roy Ferguson, Amanda Campbell, and Missy Bailey-French. The decision was very hard to make but after a surprise visit by Mr. and Mrs. Claus (Club President Rachael Sepelyak and Vice President Caitlin Hewitt) a decision was finally made.

The awards went to:

  • 1. First place was The Grinch
  • 2. Second place went to Jingle Bell Rock
  • 3. Third place was awarded to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

At the end of the event the children in the audience were allowed to give the horses treats, under the guidance of our students.

Three big boxes of food were donated by the audience to the Blue Ridge Food Bank in Verona.

WHSV-TV3 featured the event on the 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. news.
