Bridgewater Clinches Regional Riding Championship

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Bridgewater College riding team finished fourth Saturday at the University of Virginia IHSA and clinched the regional title for the second consecutive year.

The Eagles entered the final show of the season with a five-point lead over Sweet Briar and Sunday's performance was enough to hold off Sweet Briar for the regional crowm. Hollins finished third in the region.

In Sunday's show, Lynchburg placed first with 28 points to edge Hollins by a single point.

Fort the Eagles, Shelby Goodman finished third in Open Over Fences. In the intermediate divisions, Kayla Deyarmin was fourth Over Fences and Lauren Casey was sixth On the Flat.  In the novice divisions Emmy Rhodes won Over Fences and Lindsey Goode placed sixth On the Flat. Kara Sims rounded out the scoring with a fifth-place ride in Walk-Trot.

Also, Bridgewater's Emily Manos finished sixth over in the final Cacchione Cup standings.

The Eagles will advance as a team to the Zone 4 Championship show on April 7 at Goucher College in Baltimore Md. The top two teams at the Zone show will advance to the IHSA National Horse Show in Raleigh, N.C.
