Clark Announces 2012 Football Schedule

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College head football coach Michael Clark has announced the 2012 football schedule for the Eagles. Next season's slate is highlighted by a Thursday night showdown at Guilford.

The season opener for the Eagles sees the squad make a return trip to Chuck Noll Field in Latrobe, Pa. on September 1 to take on the St. Vincent Bearcats. St. Vincent finished the 2011 season with a 6-5 overall record, earning head coach Bob Colbert Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) Coach of the Year honors. The Bearcats also received a bid to play in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southwest Bowl.

Week two sees a brand new opponent for the Eagles as Greensboro College joins the slate. The Pride replaces USA South foe Ferrum on the schedule.

Following the traditional early season idle week, Bridgewater will welcome Shenandoah into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) on week four. The Hornets join the ODAC as a full member in 2012.

Bridgewater wraps up its non-conference slate the following weekend by making the long trek to Newport News, Va. to take on the Apprentice School, before returning to Jopson Field on October 6 for a showdown with Hampden-Sydney.

After the squad's matchup with the perennial power Tigers, Bridgewater will have just four days to prepare for the Guilford Quakers as the game in Greensboro has been moved up to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 11.

The Eagles return home after their primetime affair in Greensboro with back-to-back home games against Washington and Lee and Emory & Henry.

Bridgewater wraps up the regular season on the road with trips to Randolph-Macon and Catholic for their traditional week 10 and 11 matchups.

"We look forward to competing in an expanded ODAC and that second season, as we refer to it, will start earlier when Shenandoah arrives in September. Having to play St. Vincent, which was a post-season team in 2011, out of the blocks, should give us high accountability in our summer preparation."

In all, Bridgewater's 2012 opponents turned in a 48-44 overall record during the 2011 season, with two teams competing in postseason play.

Bridgewater finished the 2011 campaign with a 6-4 overall record.
