Eagles Announce 2013 Football Schedule

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College head football coach Michael Clark has announced the 2013 football schedule for the Eagles.

The season opener for the Eagles sees Bridgewater do battle with St. Vincent for the fourth straight season. On September 7, the Eagles will open play against a Bearcats squad that finished the 2012 season with a winless mark.

Bridgewater then plays Greensboro for the second straight season after a dominating victory in 2012 at Jopson Field.

Week three sees the return of USA South foe Ferrum after a one-year hiatus from play against the Panthers. Ferrum replaces the Apprentice School on the schedule. The contest with the Panthers on September 21 will mark Family Weekend on the Bridgewater campus.

Following the traditional early season idle week, Bridgewater will travel to Shenandoah to play in Winchester for the first time with the Hornets as a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). The Eagles topped Shenandoah by a 17-14 tally this past season in the Hornets' first ODAC game in program history.

Bridgewater then takes the show on the road during week six for a matchup with the Hampden-Sydney Tigers, before returning to Jopson Field on October 19 for a showdown with the Guilford Quakers. Bridgewater's game with the Quakers will coincide with Homecoming Week on the Bridgewater campus.

After the squad's matchup with the Quakers, Bridgewater will go on the road on back-to-back weeks to tangle with Washington and Lee and Emory & Henry.

Bridgewater wraps up the regular season with two straight games on the Jopson Field turf with contests against Randolph-Macon and Catholic for their traditional week 10 and 11 matchups.

"Adding Ferrum back to our schedule brings a non-conference opponent that in week 10 of last season was in the hunt for its conference's championship," said Clark. "In 2013, the ODAC schedule kicks in and with four of our first five conference games on the road, we look forward to the weekly challenges that come in our league."

In all, Bridgewater's 2013 opponents won a total of 48 games during the 2012 season, with seven of the 10 teams finishing with a .500 or better record.

Bridgewater finished the 2012 campaign with a 7-3 overall record.
