FOREST, Va. – After helping lead the Bridgewater Eagles football team to its first shutout victory since week two of the 2006 season, senior linebacker Andrew Palmer has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Defensive Player of the Week.
Palmer was active all afternoon on Saturday in Bridgewater's 57-0 shutout win over St. Vincent. Bridgewater's last shutout victory came on September 9, 2006 in a 30-0 win over Shenandoah.
On the day, Palmer amassed nine total tackles, including eight tackle assists.
The senior linebacker helped set the tone for a Bridgewater defense that didn't allow St. Vincent to get past midfield until the final drive of the contest.
Early in the second half, Palmer picked off an Andy Borgen pass to set up Bridgewater's sixth score of the day. The Penn Laird, Va. native also tallied one tackle for a loss on the afternoon.
Palmer and the Bridgewater defense tallied a pair of scores on the day and helped lead the Eagles to their most lopsided victory in a season opener in program history.
Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Greensboro for a showdown with the Pride. Kick off from Grimsley High School is set for 1 p.m.
