Balsano Named ODAC Field Hockey Player of the Week

FOREST, Va. – After helping lead the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team to its third straight victory, senior goalkeeper Jessica Balsano has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Field Hockey Player of the Week.

Balsano was sensational in goal on Saturday afternoon as she helped lead the Eagles field hockey team to a 2-0 shutout victory over Rhodes College.

The Sandy Hook, Conn. native stoned eight Lynx scoring attempts in the game and faced 20 total shots along the way.

In the first half of play, Balsano made five saves as the Eagles took a 2-0 advantage into the locker room. Over the final 35 minutes of play, Balsano was again stellar making three saves to secure the victory.

The shutout was the third of her career.

Balsano currently owns a 0.67 goals against average and a .917 save percentage on the year.

Balsano and the rest of the Eagles are back in action on Saturday when they travel to St. Mary's (Md.) to do battle with the Seahawks. Start time is set for 2 p.m.
