Golfers Lead After Day One of Tom Kinder Memorial
HARRISONBURG, Va. – Senior John Phillips fired a two-under opening round to sit in a three-way tie atop the leaderboard to pace the Bridgewater Eagles golf team to the top of the team standings after 18 holes of play of the Tom Kinder Memorial at the Lakeview Golf Course.
Bridgewater leads the team standings at +4, 292, outpacing ODAC rival Washington and Lee by two strokes.
Phillips was outstanding on the day turning in identical 35's on the Peak and Lake nine to come in at two under, 70. On the day, Phillips led par-three scoring and was second in birdies with five under-par holes.
Behind Phillips, fellow senior Travis Gahman was also under par, turning in a one under, 71. Gahman went through the front nine at one under, before playing even par through the back nine. The Souderton, Pa. native notched two Eagles on the day, including a chip in at the turn, to sit in a tie for fourth place on the individual leaderboard.
Junior Tod Foshee went 37-38 on the afternoon, to sit in a tie for 18th place overall at three over, 75. Foshee was solid on the par fives, turning in a two-under performance on the day on a quintet of par five holes.
Freshman Scott Wakely rounded out the scoring quartet for Bridgewater with a four-over, 76 finish. The Charlottesville, Va. native kept himself in the mix with a one-over performance on the course's 10 par four's and sits in a tie for 24th place overall.
Senior Mike Reuschling also competed for the Eagles and shot a 14-over, 86.
Final round action of the 2011 Tom Kinder Memorial will open on Monday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
