FOREST, Va. - Senior men's golfer Matt Dye turned a first-place finish at the Tom Kinder Memorial into his first career weekly award as the Hartwood, Va. native was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Golfer of the Week on Monday.
Dye fired an even par, 72, final round to wrap up the two-day tournament at one-under par and claim individual medalist honors while leading the Bridgewater Eagles men's golf team to a runner-up finish.
The senior finished up the weekend as the only player under par on the par 72, 6,500-yard course that encompasses the Peak and Lake nine at Harrisonburg's Lakeview Golf Course.
Dye was sensational on the course's par five holes, tallying a five-under performance across the two-day competition. Aside from his efforts on the par fives, Dye also fired in 23 pars over the weekend.
With the win, Dye becomes Bridgewater's first individual medalist at the tournament since Shawn Harper claimed top honors in 2007.
After entering the day in a three-way tie atop the individual leader, Dye ended up besting Virginia Wesleyan's John Dozier, III, by two strokes to go wire-to-wire for the win.
The win is the first in Dye's career.
Dye and the rest of the Eagles are back in action on September 23 when they travel to The Manor Golf Club in Farmville, Va. for the Hampden-Sydney Invitational. The two-day tournament concludes on September 24.
