BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team allowed just two goals after the first quarter in a 12-6 road win at Southern Virginia.
Senior goalie Kevin Metzger continued his strong string of save percentage performances, stopping 16 shots. Freshman Mason Gauntt had seven ground balls.
Blake Mann led the attack with six goals and an assist. Eric Husselbaugh and Sean MacLeish each recorded two goals and one assist.
SVU's Shawn Lamb made it 4-4 with 3:01 left in the first quarter, but it was the final time the hosts would be on the scoreboard for the ensuing 40+ minutes.
Husselbaugh gave the Eagles a lead heading into the second quarter and Mann recorded the only point of the next period.
A man up goal from MacLeish and another from Mann made it 8-4 Eagles at the end of the third quarter.
Vincent Foti pushed the gap to 9-4, before Brady Cook finally broke the Knights' scoring slump with 7:28 remaining in the game.
Mann already had a hat trick at that point, but would add three more in a span of under four minutes late in the contest.
Bridgewater moved to 8-3 on the season, a new program-best for victories in a season. The Eagles will host Randolph-Macon on Friday afternoon in an important ODAC conference matchup.
