Lynchburg College slips past Eagles, 3-2

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Lynchburg College scored on a penalty kick with just under five minutes remaining Wednesday to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Bridgewater College Eagles in ODAC action.
The Hornets controlled play in the opening half, but it was Bridgewater that scored first. The Eagles received their first corner in the 36th minute and took advantage to take the lead. Ryan Tavernaris took the corner from Zach Cundiff and made a perfect pass to Shane O'Donnell who beat the Hornets keeper to give the Eagles the early lead.
The advantage didn't last long as Lynchburg's Shawn Bender scored at the 37:01 mark to tie the score.
Lynchburg took the lead in the opening two minutes of the second half when Jim Rochow scored, giving the Hornets the 2-1 lead.
Lynchburg maintained the lead until O'Donnell scored off an assist from Cundiff to tie the score at 2-2 at the 72:48 mark.
The Hornets scored the winning goal when Josh Reed was able to beat BC keeper Jack Bottoms on the penalty kick.
The Eagles are now 1-8 overall and 0-2 in the ODAC. Lynchburg improves to 6-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play.
