BUENA VISTA, Va. - Southern Virginia scored with less than a minute left in the first overtime to defeat Bridgewater 2-1 Wednesday in non-conference action.
The loss snapped the Eagles three-game winning streak and evened their record at 3-3.
Southern Virginia led 1-0 at halftime, but the Eagles scored the equalizer midway through the second half. Ryan Pigg (Amherst, Va./Amherst) scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Daniel Visone (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonia Forge), tying the score in the 66th minute.
Southern Virginia's Adam Freeman headed in the winning goal off a free kick from McNaughton Nelson with just 40 seconds left in the first overtime.
Bridgewater held an 18-15 edge in shots, including a 4-2 edge in the extra period. The Knights held a slim 8-6 edge in corners.
Bridgewater keeper Travis Morris (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) finished with six saves.
The Eagles return to action Saturday when they open ODAC play at Randolph-Macon.
