BRIDGEWATER, Va. - An early first-half goal proved to be enough for Lynchburg as the Hornets edged Bridgewater College, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon in ODAC action.
Lynchburg scored the game's only goal in the 14th minute when Devin Jones punched a shot into the net with teammate Thomas Moran getting the assist.
The Eagles had several chances in the second half, but each time Lynchburg keeper Michael Releford was up to the task.
For the game, Lynchburg held a 12-10 edge in shots, but the Eagles held the advantage in the second half by a 7-5 margin. Releford recorded four of his five saves in the final 45 minutes to preserve the shutout.
Bridgewater keeper Travis Morris (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) also had a solid game as he finished with six saves.
The Eagles are now 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the ODAC. Lynchburg is 4-4-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the conference.
Bridgewater is back in action Saturday afternoon when the Eagles host Virginia Wesleyan in another ODAC contest.
