BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College closed out its regular season Tuesday and the Eagles came up short against rival Eastern Mennonite, 2-0, in ODAC action.
The two teams played on even terms for most of the first half until EMU broke the ice in the 41st minute on a goal by Mark Mast.
The score remained 1-0 until the 60th minute when the Royals scored off a cormer. Jared Ross took the corner for EMU and his ball was right on target as Mitchell Leap headed the ball into an open net for a 2-0 Bridgewater lead.
EMU held a 14-9 edge in shots and a 3-0 advantage in corners. Bridgewater keeper Travis Morris finished with four saves and EMU keeper Andrew Yoder recorded six saves.
The Eagles finish the regular season with a 7-10-1 overall record and a 4-5-1 mark in the ODAC. EMU closes out with a 9-7-1 overall record and a 7-2-1 mark in the conference.
The two teams will be back in action Saturday in a rematch when the seventh-seeded Eagles travel to Harrisonburg to meet No. 2 EMU in an ODAC tournament quarterfinal matchup. The start time will be announced later this week
