Floyd-Gower Doubles Title Leads Eagles in Final Day of ITA Regional Championships
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The duo of Brent Floyd
and Tim Gower went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend and was victorious
in the finals of the B3 Doubles flight as the Bridgewater Eagles
men's tennis team wrapped up the weekend of competition at the ITA
Regional Championships at the University of Mary Washington.
Floyd and Gower cruised in the consolation finals by an 8-4 score
before taking a hard-fought victory in a tiebreak by a 9-8 (3)
score to win the B3 Doubles flight.
Floyd and Gower were both exceptional in singles play as well.
Floyd reached the also exceptional in singles play, reaching the B5
singles final, before falling in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Gower
earned a pair of 6-1, 6-1 victories in the consolation quarter and
semi-finals before falling in the finals by a 6-2, 6-3 score.
In the B2 singles bracket, Peter Hawkins wrapped up the day with a
2-1 mark, reaching the semi-finals before falling by a 6-1, 6-0
score. Hawkins also teamed up with Teddy Callow in the B2 doubles
section where the tandem reached the semi-finals before falling by
an 8-2 tally.
Brad DeWitt made the consolation semi-finals before falling 6-2,
6-2. DeWitt also competed in doubles action, teaming up with Chris
Radke to place fourth on the weekend. DeWitt and Radke went 1-1 on
the day, winning the consolation semi-final by injury default,
before falling 8-4 in the consolation finals.
Bridgewater wrapped up the fall slate this weekend at Mary
Washington and will be out of action the fall season begins on
February 23 at Ferrum.
