Men’s Tennis Rolls to 8-1 Victory over St. Mary’s

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In the first half of back-to-back weekend matches, the Bridgewater Eagles took care of business with an 8-1 victory over the visiting St. Mary’s Seahawks in out-of-conference action at the BC Tennis Courts.

Bridgewater got things started with a 6-0 sweep in singles play.

Senior Chris Radke turned in a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number one to kick things off before freshman Peter Hawkins was victorious at number two by a 6-0, 6-0 tally.

Junior Brad DeWitt was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at number three in the closest match of singles play, before Teddy Callow and Brent Floyd won by identical 6-2, 6-1 scores at numbers four and five, respectively. The win for Floyd improves the sophomore to 11-1 on the year.

Freshman Martin Donaire wrapped up the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number six.

In doubles action, the Eagles took the top two matches before dropped its lone match of the day at number three.

Radke and DeWitt were 8-1 winners at number one, while Hawkins and Callow posted an 8-0 victory at number two. The win for Radke and DeWitt was their team-leading seventh doubles victory of the season.

Donaire and Floyd teamed up for an 8-5 loss at number three.

Bridgewater is back in action on Sunday when the team heads to Elizabethtown.
