Men's Tennis Drops 8-1 Match at No. 27 Hampden-Sydney
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - In an ODAC contest that was closer than the score indicates, the Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team fell on the road to the 27th-ranked Hampden-Sydney Tigers by an 8-1 score.
At number two and three doubles, the Eagles had a slightly harder time, falling by 8-2 and 8-1 scores, respectively.
Radke fell by a 6-2, 6-1 tally at number one singles, before freshman Peter Hawkins gave H-SC's Shad Harrell all he could handle in a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 defeat.
Junior Brad DeWitt dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision at number three for the Eagles, while fellow junior Teddy Callow picked up Bridgewater's lone win of the day at number four by an easy 6-2, 6-2 tally.
The final two singles matches of the day were tight as the Eagles pushed the five and six singles players for the Tigers to the brink.
At number five, Brent Floyd looked to set the single season wins record but came up short in a 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 14-12 defeat in a three set thriller.
Finally, Martin Donaire dropped a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 match at number six.
The loss for BC snapped a four-match winning streak for the Eagles.
Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday when Randolph comes to town. Saturday marks Senior Day for the Eagles men's and women's tennis teams.
