Men's Tennis Defeats Guilford 5-1; Advances to Semifinals

LEXINGTON, Va. - In the opening round of the 2010 ODAC Men's Tennis Championships, the Bridgewater Eagles jumped out to an early lead over the Guilford Quakers en route to a 5-1 victory to advance to the next round of action at Washington and Lee.

Bridgewater got the day started with an 8-5 victory as the tandem of Peter Hawkins and Teddy Callow were victorious at number two doubles.

Brent Floyd and Martin Donaire continued Bridgewater's winning ways with an 8-6 win at number three, before the Quakers got their lone win of the day with an 8-5 win at number one.

In singles play, Callow turned in a 6-0, 6-2 win at number four, before Floyd posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number five. Floyd's win gives the sophomore 21 victories on the year.

Bridgewater sealed the deal with Donaire's 6-1, 6-3 win at number six.

In other singles action, the No. 1, 2 and 3 matches were started but went unfinished. Guilford was leading two of the three remaining singles matches when they were called.

Bridgewater will do battle with the host Generals tomorrow, Saturday, April 24 at 9:00 a.m. in semifinal action.
