Smith Accepts Head Men’s Position at Bowdoin College

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Conor Smith, the 2011 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's tennis coach of the year, has resigned his position as the head men's and women's tennis coach at Bridgewater College to accept the men's tennis head coaching vacancy at Bowdoin College in Maine.

"Conor has done an outstanding job elevating both our men's and women's programs within the ODAC and the region. He has brought in another outstanding recruiting class for 2011-2012 and has left the program in great shape for a new coach," said director of athletics Curt Kendall.

Smith was the 2009 ODAC men's tennis coach of the year after leading the Eagles to a third place finish in the conference – the team's highest conference ranking in 30 years.

In 2007-08, the men's team tied the record for most wins in a season while also having their top doubles duo finish 11th in the Atlantic South region.  Coach Smith's top three players also earned 1st and 2nd team All-ODAC honors as well.

On the women's side, 2007-08 saw the women reach the conference finals, while the Eagles also set a school record with 15 wins. This past season, the Eagles saw a freshman loaded team tie the school wins record with 15 while reaching the conference semifinals.

The College will immediately begin a search to find a replacement for Smith.
