Men’s Tennis Team Earns No. 2 Seed for ODAC Tournament
FOREST, Va. – Following an 11-5 season and an 8-1 campaign in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play, the Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team earned the number two seed for the upcoming conference tournament and will host seventh-seeded Roanoke on Saturday morning at the BC Tennis Courts.
Saturday's match is set for a 10 a.m. start. as the Eagles look to advance to the semifinal round of the tournament, to be played on April 28 at Randolph-Macon. The winner of Saturday's match would play the winner of the 3 vs. 6 matchup putting third-seeded Guilford College against sixth-seeded Hampden-Sydney.
The Eagles stormed through the conference slate after dropping an early matchup with Washington and Lee. Bridgewater's loss to the Generals is the last time the team has tasted defeat as they ride a seven-match winning streak into the weekend.
Defending ODAC champion Washington and Lee University enters the tournament as the top seed. The Generals are tied for 19th in the latest ITA NCAA Division III National Poll and fifth in the Atlantic South Region.
W&L has one remaining regular season match against Hampden-Sydney College on Friday. Regardless of the outcome, the Generals (11-4, 8-0) have already clinched the number one spot, either outright or via tie-breaker over the Eagles. The same can be said for H-SC's (8-7, 5-4) position as the tournament's sixth seed. Fifth-seeded Randolph-Macon College (8-7, 5-4) holds the head-to-head edge over the Tigers should the two squads finish tied in the regular-season standings.
Guilford College (10-7, 7-2) and Emory & Henry College (14-6, 6-3) earned the third and fourth seeds, respectively. Roanoke College (4-11, 3-6) and Virginia Wesleyan College (9-10, 2-7) round out the final two spots as the seventh and eighth seeds, sequentially.
