Eagles Lose Close Match At Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Bridgewater College lost a close decision Sunday to the University of Mary Washington by a score of 6-3 in men's tennis action.

Mary Washington took a 2-1 lead after three closely contested doubles matches.

Bridgewater won at No. 2 doubles when Christian Lynn and Mike Cable edged David Lunding-Johansson and Donato Rizzolo 9-8, winning the tiebreaker 9-7.

Mary Washington took close wins in the remaining two doubles. Tyler Carey and Kaleb Nguyen edged Evan Stack and Brandon Larsen 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and Marcell Rengifo and Ryan Byrd slipped past Peter Hawkins and Sam Churchill 8-5.

Bridgewater picked up wins in two of the six singles matches. At. No. 3, Stack defeated Will Apperson 6-2, 7-5. Christian Lynn won in split sets at No. 4 over Rengifo. After losing the first set 6-3, Lynn bounced back to even the match by taking the second set 7-5. A tiebreaker was played to determine the winner with Lynn prevailing.

Hawkins lost in split sets at No. 1 singles. Hawkins won the first set over Alex Blakhin 6-1 but lost the second set 6-4. Blakhin won the tiebreaker 10-6.
