WINCHESTER, Va. - Bridgewater College improved to 9-7 overall and 6-1 in the ODAC with a 9-0 victory Wednesday over Shenandoah University in men's tennis action.
The Eagles led 3-0 after doubles play. Evan Stack and Branden Larsen took an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles over Michael Milanov and Steven Baker. At No. 2, Peter Hawkins and Sam Churchill rolled to an 8-1 win over Jeremy Parel and Will Leach. The Eagles won the No. 3 doubles match by default.
Hawkins won in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 over Milanov at No. 1 singles but the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches went three sets.
At No. 2, Larsen defeated Baker 7-6 in the first set, but Baker evened the match by winning the second set 6-3. A tiebreaker was played to decide the match and Larsen prevailed 10-8. Stack took the first set 6-1 at No. 3 singles, but Parel battled back to even the match with a 6-4 win in the second set. In the tiebreaker to decide the match, Stack took a 10-6 victory.
The Eagles took the next two singles matches in straight sets. Churchill downed Zach O'Neal 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and Ben Bowles stopped Will Leach 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5. The Eagles won the No. 6 singles flight by default.
