FOREST, Va. - Bridgewater College senior Peter Hawkins has been named the ODAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the conference office.
Hawkins helped lead the Eagles to a 3-0 record on the week as the team moved into sole possession of second place in the conference. The Eagles took victories over Shenandoah, Virginia Wesleyan and Emory & Henry to improve to 8-1 in conference play.
Hawkins finished 3-0 in doubles play with partner Sam Churchill. The duo won their match at No. 2 doubles against Shenandoah and added wins at No. 3 doubles against Virginia Wesleyan and E&H. With the three wins, Hawkins and Churchill remained undefeated in doubles play in ODAC matches.
In singles, Hawkins finished 3-0 at the No. 1 position. He won his matches against Shenandoah and Virginia Wesleyan in straight sets. In his match against Emory & Henry's James Keighley, Hawkins lost the first set 6-4, but bounced back to control play in the next two sets, winning 6-0, 6-1. Hawkins is 8-1 in conference play at the No. 1 singles position.
The men's tennis team returns to action Wednesday when the Eagles travel to Roanoke College. Bridgewater enters Wednesday's match with an 8-1 record in ODAC play.
