Men's Tennis Closes Regular Season With 7-2 Victory Over Roanoke

SALEM, Va. - Bridgewater College closed out its regular season Thursday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over Roanoke College in ODAC men's tennis action.

The Eagles trailed 2-1 after doubles play, but rallied by sweeping the six singles matches.

Roanoke's James Lee and Matt Kessler edged Evan Stack and Brandon Larsen 8-6 at No. 1 singles for the Maroons first point.

Bridgewater's Peter Hawkins and Sam Churchill moved up to No. 2 doubles for Thursday's match and the duo suffered their first loss of the season in ODAC play. Roanoke's Chris Migliarese and Jacob Morris edged the Eagles duo 9-8, winning the tiebreaker 7-5.

The Eagles salvaged a point at No. 3 doubles where Mike Cable and Robert Belton defeated Ian Webster and Lewis Young, 8-4.

Bridgewater controlled singles action, winning four of the six matches in straight sets.

At No. 1, Hawkins stopped Lee 6-4, 6-2. Larsen rolled past Kessler 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Stack defeated Migliarese 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 3 position. Drew Hubble claimed victory at No. 6, defeating Young 6-2, 6-4.

Cable won his match at No. 4 over Morris. Cable won the first set 7-6, but Morris evened the score with a 6-1 win in the second set. The two played a tiebreaker to decide the match with Cable winning 10-8.

Churchill needed three sets to defeat Webster at No. 5 sets as he rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win.

Bridgewater will enter the ODAC tournament as the No. 2 and will host Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon in a first-round match. The Eagles enter the tournament with a 12-7 overall record and a 9-1 record in the ODAC.
