HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S. C. – The Bridgewater College men's tennis team wrapped up its trip to Hilton Head for Spring Break, losing 9-0 Friday to NAIA foe Missouri Valley.
The Vikings won the three doubles matches with the first two going down to the wire.
At No. 1, Bridgewater's Joe Dillenbeck and Josh Rodgers came up just short against Abdul Alhamzawi and Stefano Benedetti, lsoing 9-7. BC's Kyle Hartfield and Thomas Rishcoff lost a tough 8-6 match at No. 2 to Benedikt Voelker and Marc Kerndl.
Hartfield and Dillenbeck each extended his singles match to three sets, but each came up short in a deciding tiebreaker.
At No. 1, Hartfield lost the first set to Alhamzawi 6-2, but bounced back to win the second set 6-3. Alhamzawi claimed the deciding tiebreak by a 10-6 score. Dillenbeck won the first set over Benedetti 7-5, but then lost a close second set 6-4. Benedetti won the tiebreaker, 10-8.
Kerndl stopped Rishcoff 6-0, 6-3 to win at No. 3 while Rodgers was forced to retire in his match, losing at the time in the first set to Voelker 4-3.
Rei Pelushi rolled past Horner 6-1, 6-1 to win at No. 5 and Teal defeated Roberts 6-1, 6-0 to take the No. 6 singles contest.
