BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Senior men's track and field and cross country athletes Ryan Speray and Tim Wisniewski were both named to the Capital One Academic All-District team announced on Thursday afternoon after voting conducted by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
For the tandem the selection marks the second year in a row that they were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and in track and field and cross country.
Speray graduated in early May with a degree in history and political science and boasted an outstanding 3.97 GPA. A native of Gloucester, Va., Speray ranks in the top five in four separate track and field events and competed on the indoor 4x800 meter relay squad that set the school record in the event. During the 2013 indoor season, Speray set new personal bests in the mile run and 3,000 meter run.
Wisniewski also graduated in early May with a degree in English and turned in a 3.88 GPA. The Fredericksburg, Va. native was the 2013 ODAC Indoor Track and Field Scholar Athlete of the Year and also earned the 2013 ODAC Outdoor Scholar Athlete of the Year award. Wisniewski holds the indoor 1,000 meter run record and ranks in the top five in three indoor events. Also during the 2013 indoor season, Wisniewski aided the team to the indoor 4x800 meter relay and distance medley relay records with the distance medley relay team also setting a new conference record in the process.
Speray and Wisniewski are two of just five total Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) student-athletes to earn a spot on the CoSIDA District Five team.
