HAMPTON, Ga. – Bridgewater College sophomore Luke Sohl placed seventh at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional cross country championship on Saturday morning to leading the Eagles men's cross country team to a third place finish and earn an individual trip to the Division III National Championships.
Sohl crossed the finish line with a time of 26:05.82 to secure a spot at next weekend's NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. and earn All-Region honors.
Sophomore Tim Miller was not far behind Sohl and finished in 20th place with a time of 26:47.09. Miller's performance earned him a spot on the All-Region team.
Senior Ryan Speray was also outstanding in his final collegiate race for the Eagles, finishing in 24th place overall. Speray crossed the line with a time of 26:54.44 to earn All-Region honors.
Junior Troy Jackson and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Rookie of the Year Matt Denlinger finished the eight kilometer course back-to-back in 43rd and 44th place, respectively. Jackson finished with a time of 27:16.21 and Denlinger finished the race two seconds behind with a time of 27:18.
Abe Rittenhouse crossed the finish line with a time of 28:13.84 which was good enough for 72nd place out of the 159 runners.
Lynchburg College placed four runners in the top ten earning the Hornets the regional championship and the region's automatic qualification for next weekend's Division III Champonships. Trinity (Texas) took home second place with four men finishing in the top 20.
Centre's John Kieffer paced the field to earn the individual region championship with a time of 25:17.37 and led the Colonels to a fourth place finish.
The NCAA Division III cross country championship will take place in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, November 17.
