Bridgewater Sweeps Gettysburg and Mount Aloysius to Wrap Up Snowbird Tournament
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – On the final day of play at the 2010 Snowbird Tournament, the Bridgewater Eagles softball team ran into its toughest tests of the week in Gettysburg and Mount Aloysius. Bridgewater was able to get by the two teams, defeating Gettysburg 3-0 and nipping Mount Aloysius 2-1.
In game one, runs came at a premium as the Eagles bats were cooled down after an offensive explosion the first two days.
Junior Leah Cossentino led the way for the Eagles at the plate with a 2-for-3 outing. Cossentino also drove in a run. Designated player Emily Morris chipped in with a 1-for-2 effort and a RBI.
In the circle, freshman Heather Jenkins threw one-hitter to earn the win in a low scoring affair. Jenkins went the distance, striking out four without surrendering a walk.
Bridgewater’s final game saw the Eagles break a late deadlock to earn a 2-1 win over Mount Aloysius.
Senior Lindsay Lam got the start for the Eagles and threw 5 1/3 innings of action before being replaced in a 1-1 affair in the sixth by Ashley Gills.
Gills proceeded to mow through the Mount Aloysius lineup before an Ariel Stewart bunt rounded pinch-runner Morgan Williams to put the Eagles ahead for good at a 2-1 tally.
Lam struck out 10 while allowing one unearned run, while Gills got the win, allowing no runs and striking out four.
Stewart was solid for the Eagles at the plate with a 2-for-2 outing and the game-winning RBI.
BC rounds out the Snowbird Tournament with an unscathed 6-0 record. BC is currently riding an eight-game winning streak. On the week, the Eagles didn’t allow a single earned run and outscored opponents at a 44-1 clip.
Bridgewater is back in action tomorrow, Thursday when the squad travels to Guilford to open ODAC play. The opening pitch with the Quakers is slated for 2:30 p.m.
