Three Tabbed to ODAC Softball Teams

Three Tabbed to ODAC Softball Teams

FOREST, Va. – Bridgewater College senior pitcher Heather Jenkins was named to the first team to lead three selections for the Eagles softball team to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) all-conference teams announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Jenkins was named to the first team while third baseman Melanie Lamb earned a spot on the second team and right fielder Aven Thomas was tabbed to the third team.

Following a season when the senior hurler set new Bridgewater records for career shutouts and career complete games, Jenkins was one of two pitchers named to the All-ODAC first team. The recognition for Jenkins is the third of her career and the first time she was named to the league's top unit. Jenkins owned a 14-7 record during the season and wrapped up the year with a 1.29 ERA which ranked the Locust Grove, Va. native second in the conference. The senior also ranked second in the league with her 19 complete games and four shutouts. Jenkins wrapped up her career with 51 victories which ranks her second in the career record books.

Lamb turned in an outstanding senior season to wrap up a stellar four-year career with the Eagles. The Ruckersville, Va. native ranked in the top 10 in the league in five different categories, including owning the league's fourth-best slugging percentage (.747) and the fourth-best on-base percentage (.509). Lamb blasted seven homers during the course of the year to finish up her career with 20 long balls to rank in fifth in the career record books. The honor marks the second-straight season she was named to the All-ODAC second team. Lamb was also named to the ODAC all-tournament team after turning in a tremendous effort at the league's championship tournament.

Finally, Thomas posted a strong senior season in conference play to earn the third All-ODAC accolade of her career. Thomas blasted five home runs in league play and hit at a .339 clip against conference foes to help lead Bridgewater to a 24-18 overall record and a berth in the conference tournament. On the year, Thomas belted nine doubles and drove in 23 runs while also owning seven wins in the circle.

Virginia Wesleyan College outfielder Tori Higginbotham and righty MacKenzie Creech headline the 2013 ODAC Softball All-Conference Awards as the Marlins' duo was named the ODAC Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.  Lynchburg College mentor Dawn Simmons was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year, while Shenandoah University outfielder Kimberly Brady picked up ODAC Rookie of the Year accolades.  Roanoke College first baseman Alea Bier received the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award in a vote of the league's sports information directors.

Bridgewater rounded out the 2013 season with a 24-18 overall record.
