BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Behind victories in 12 of the 14 events contested, the Bridgewater Eagles swim team kept its unbeaten dual meet streak alive with a tri-meet sweep of visiting Emory & Henry and the College of Notre Dame in the team's home finale in Nininger Pool.
Bridgewater topped the visiting Wasps by a 105-12 score and defeated the College of Notre Dame by an 89-32 margin and snapped four school records along the way.
In the meet's first event, the Eagles set the tone for the day, with a decisive victory in the 200 meter medley relay with a time of 2:25.06.
Following the victory in the relay, the Eagles rattled off wins in the next four events, to take an enormous lead early in the meet.
Sophomore Danielle Dillon (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) won the 800 meter freestyle event by a minute and a half after touching the pad in a time of 10:42.78, before freshman Michelle Caron (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) claimed top honors in the 200 meter freestyle race with a winning time of 2:26.52.
Bridgewater's early successes continued with Carrie Crowther's (Burgess, Va./Northumberland) victory in the 100 meter backstroke and Jeni Zeiler's (Lutherville, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) triumph in the 100 meter breaststroke. Crowther touched in a time of 1:13.86 to win the 100 meter backstroke, before Zeiler topped the field in the 100 meter breaststroke with a winning time of 1:25.17.
Crowther kept things rolling two events later with a triumph in the 50 meter freestyle event, to claim her second individual win of the day. The Burgess, Va. native won the meet's shortest race in a time of 30.04 seconds.
Following Crowther's victory, Dillon snapped the first school record of the day with a 1:04.67 triumph in the 100 meter freestyle race.
Crowther earned her third individual victory of the day in record-setting fashion, setting a new standard in the 200 meter backstroke with a finishing time of 2:46.67.
Zeiler followed things up with by etching her names in the annals of Bridgewater lore with a 3:05.21 victory in the 200 meter breaststroke.
Dillon claimed her third win of the meet in the 400 meter freestyle event in a winning time of 5:14.37.
The Eagles finished the meet with back-to-back victories, including a record-setting victory in the 400 meter individual medley.
Caron topped the field in the 400 meter individual medley en route to the school record with a finishing time of 5:45.27.
Bridgewater wrapped up the meet with a triumph in the 200 meter freestyle relay, claiming the win in a time of 2:05.92.
The Eagles claimed the top two spots in three events, to further solidify the victory.
Bridgewater is back in action next weekend when they travel to Millersville to take on the Division II Marauders. Action from Millersville is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
