Hawkins Tabbed as New Women’s Lacrosse Coach

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Director of Athletics Curt Kendall has announced the hiring of former Wilkes University assistant coach and interim head coach Danielle Hawkins as the head coach of the Bridgewater College women's lacrosse program.

"We're excited for the progress that the women's lacrosse team has made over the last number of years and are truly excited to have Danielle continue the resurgence of the program," said Kendall. "Her experience at Wilkes and her playing experience make her a strong leader and we're thrilled to have her lead our women's lacrosse program into a new chapter."

Hawkins takes the reins of a Bridgewater program that has won a dozen games over the last two seasons and has been on the cusp of earning a trip to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament.

Most recently, Hawkins served as the interim head coach for the Lady Colonels and led the program to a 10-4 overall record during the 2013 season and the program's first playoff appearance with a trip to the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) conference tournament.  Five Lady Colonels were named to the all-conference team following a 4-2 mark in conference play and the most regular season wins in program history.

"I'm excited for this opportunity to work with a team that has been making great progress over the past couple of years," said Hawkins. "I will begin to recruit immediately, and hope to find new talent and athletes with a good work ethic. I'm also grateful to Bridgewater College for the opportunity they have given to me to lead its women's lacrosse program."

Prior to her time at Wilkes, Hawkins enjoyed after a four-year career at Division I Monmouth University. She was a four-year starter for a Hawks team that made three semifinal appearances in the North East Conference (NEC) Tournament. During her time at Monmouth, Hawkins was named to the 2010 NEC Sportsmanship Team following her junior season.

She was an active member in the Monmouth Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (MSAAC) as well as participating in the 2010 NCAA Career in Sports Forum.

Hawkins graduated from Monmouth in May of 2011 with a degree in business administration with a focus in finance and earned her master's degree in business administration from Wilkes in May.
