Women's Soccer Team Chooses Captains

The Bridgewater Women's Soccer Team announces captains for 2010. During a team meeting held on Feb. 1, Coach Van Horn revealed the names of three players who were selected by team members and the coaching staff to become the next team captains for the Eagles. Forward Meghan Groos, defender Jessica Palmer and goalkeeper Cari Hensley will perform the duties as captains beginning this spring semester.
Each of the three captains named are in their second year with the Women's Soccer team. "Even though the captains are sophomores, it's evident why these players have been chosen by their teammates and the staff. Meghan, Jessica and Cari have consistently shown many characteristics that I believe a captain should have and always raise the level of play in practice and during games," stated Coach Van Horn.
Meghan Groos has played a significant role in the Eagles offense during her first two seasons scoring 11 goals and adding 12 assists. Following the 2009 season, she was honored as the first female soccer player at Bridgewater to be named to the National Soccer Coaches of America Association (NSCAA) All-South Atlantic Region Women's Soccer Third Team. In addition, she was named to the All-ODAC Second Team.
Jessica Palmer has been a steady member of the Eagles back line in her first two seasons. During this time, she has helped reduce the number of goals and shots taken by opponents almost in half each year. In 2009, the Eagles defense was ranked fourth in the conference with a 1.00 goals per game allowed average in conference play and an overall average of 1.15 for the season.
Cari Hensley is one of the team's goalkeepers who has been responsible for protecting the net over the past two seasons. In 2009, Cari was fifth in the conference with an overall 0.97 goals against average. The Eagles set a single season record for recording the most number of shutouts in a season with 10 during the 2009 season. Cari helped earn six of those shutouts.
