McGhee's Third Place Finish Leads Women's Tennis Team at ODAC Fall Championships

HOLLINS, Va. - Junior Morgan McGhee was
victorious in the consolation round to take third place and lead
the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team in its fall finale at
ODAC Fall Championships at Hollins University.
McGhee was victorious in the consolation round of Flight C by an
8-0 score to take home the highest finish of the weekend for the
Eagles in singles play.
Senior teammate Megan Mathias reached the consolation finals in
Flight A before falling in a tight two-set match by a 7-6, 6-4
tally.
Freshman Olivia Stone went 0-2 on the weekend, dropping both of her
matches in Flight B, with her tightest match coming in the
consolation round, as the newcomer fell in three sets by a 6-2,
2-6, 10-7 score.
In Flight D, sophomore Emily Schweitzer went 1-1, winning her
quarterfinal matchup by a 6-2, 6-3 tally before falling in the
semi-finals.
Schweitzer's sophomore teammate Ally McConaughy recorded the same
1-1 fate on the weekend in Flight E. McConaughy won her
quarterfinal match by a 6-4, 6-1 score before falling in the
semi-finals.
Freshman Amanda Gorby also went 1-1 on the weekend with an easy
6-1, 6-1 victory in the quarterfinals and a 6-1, 6-4 loss in the
semifinals.
In doubles action, Mathias and Stone went 1-2 on the weekend in
Flight A, while McConaughy and Schweitzer recorded a similar 1-1
mark on the weekend in Flight B action.
Finally in Flight C, Gorby and McGhee finished up the weekend with
a 1-1 mark as well, winning their quarterfinal matchup by a 9-8
score, before falling in a tight 8-6 match in the semis.
Bridgewater is back in action in the spring when the team opens up
regular season play at Ferrum on February 23, 2010.
