Women's Tennis Selected Second in ODAC

SALEM, Va. - After one of best seasons in school history in 2009, the Bridgewater College women's tennis team was selected to finish second in the ODAC in voting conducted by the ODAC office among the conference coaches.

Bridgewater returns the core of last year's squad that finished with an 8-2 mark in ODAC play. The team lost only one senior last year in first team All-ODAC selection Jessica Hill.

Seniors Alissa Michael and Megan Mathias headline the returnees for Bridgewater.  Michael and Mathias partnered up to receive All-ODAC first team honors in doubles action after posting a 13-6 overall record.  Mathias also completed the season with an 11-5 singles mark.

Marieke Johnson also returns to the court after earning first team honors in doubles play a season ago.

Washington and Lee was selected to repeat as conference champions, earning all 11 first-place votes.

Virginia Wesleyan and Hollins were separated by a mere one point for third place, with the Marlins holding down the third spot with 84 points, edging out Hollins' 83 points. Sweet Briar rounds out the top five with 77 points.

Bridgewater opens up the 2010 spring season on February 23 when the team heads to Ferrum.
