Women’s Tennis Falls at Hollins

ROANOKE, Va. – In a match that was resumed with Hollins leading 3-0 after doubles, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team took two singles matches on the day but couldn't get over the top as they fell to Hollins by a 7-2 tally.

The match was started on April 2nd before rain came through the Roanoke area, pushing singles play back by 12 days.

Bridgewater got off on the right foot with a big win at number one as freshman Katie Gordon knocked off 2010 ODAC  first teamer Karen Montoya by a 6-1, 7-5 tally to get the Eagles their first win.

Freshman Katy Bergey followed Gordon's triumph with a win of her own, knocking off 2010 ODAC second teamer Sarah Budrus by a 7-5, 6-2 margin at number two.

Hollins rolled in the final four matches of the day, winning at three, four, five and six to knock off the Eagles.

Freshman Brittany Wilson tasted defeat for the first time in over a month with a 6-1, 7-5 loss at number three, before Amanda Gorby fell 6-2, 6-1 at number four.

Junior Emily Schweitzer dropped a 6-1, 6-0 matchup at number five before Olivia Stone pushed Mariah Bryant hard at number six but eventually fell by a 6-2, 6-7, 10-3 tally to close out the match.

Bridgewater is back in action on Sunday, April 17 when Guilford comes to town for the opening round  of the ODAC tournament. Sunday's quarterfinal marks a rematch from earlier in the season when the Eagles defeated the Quakers by an 8-1 tally in Greensboro, N.C.
