BRIDGEWATER, Va. – After jumping out to a 2-1 lead following doubles, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team won three quick singles matches to advance to the semifinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament with a 5-1 win over the visiting Guilford Quakers.
At number one doubles, the tandem of Katy Bergey and Katie Gordon picked up a an 8-2 win to get the Eagles off on a good note, before Bridgewater took a 2-0 lead with a win at number three doubles. The duo of Brittany Wilson and Olivia Stone earned an 8-4 win at number three to put the Eagles ahead.
In singles play, Gordon made quick work of Mackey Wesner at number by, dispatching Wesner by a 6-0, 6-1 tally to inch the Eagles closer to the win.
Bergey followed up Gordon's win with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Natalie Sutton at number two to put the Eagles up 4-1.
Ten minutes later, Stone sealed the deal for the Eagles with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six over Guilford's Adelaide Ayres to give Bridgewater the 5-1 victory.
The matches at number three, four and five went unfinished.
With the victory, the Eagles move to 15-3 on the season, while the Quakers finish up the year with an 8-11 mark.
Bridgewater will be back in action on Friday, April 22 when the team takes on the winner of the matchup between Hollins and Virginia Wesleyan at Washington and Lee's Duchossois Tennis Complex.
