Women’s Tennis Tabbed to Finish Fourth
FOREST, Va. – With just over a week to go before the start of the spring portion of the 2011-12 season, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team picked up 76 points to come in fourth in preseason polling conducted among the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) coaches.
The Eagles were edged in voting by a meager three points by the Vixens of Sweet Briar in the battle for third place.
Bridgewater returns a trio of sophomores who all earned All-ODAC honors a season ago as freshmen after propelling the Eagles to a 15-4 overall record and a berth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) semifinals.
The Eagles are also under new leadership as head coach Marty Perry takes the reins of a Bridgewater team that rolled up an 8-2 record last season in conference matches.
Defending champion Washington and Lee University received 10 first place votes on the way to 100 points as the Generals top the poll. Hollins University garnered the remaining top tally towards 86 points to hold second in the survey. Sweet Briar and the Eagles sit in third and fourth, respectively, while Roanoke rounds out the top five.
The Eagles open the 2012 spring season on February 18 against the Generals. The home portion of the slate opens on March 15 against projected runner-up Hollins.
