Women’s Tennis Blanks Virginia Wesleyan, 8-0
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – In the 2012 regular season road finale, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team extended its winning streak to eight matches with an easy 8-0 shutout victory over the host Virginia Wesleyan Marlins.
Seniors Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer turned in an 8-1 win at number two, while the duo of Rita Murphy and Brittany Floyd earned a win by forfeit at number three to keep the Eagles unscathed through doubles play.
Bergey opened up play in top flight singles action with an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory to post her team-leading eighth conference singles win of the year, and also extended her personal win streak to seven matches.
At number two, Schweitzer posted a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 victory, while McConaughy cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at number three.
In her first action of the spring, Floyd cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at number four, while Murphy claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number five.
At number six, neither team entered a player.
The Bridgewater women haven't lost since early March, with that lost coming in non-conference action against Methodist.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday at the BC Tennis Courts when it hosts Sweet Briar in the regular season finale. Wednesday's affair with the Vixens is set for a 4:30 p.m. start.
