Women’s Tennis Falls 5-0 to Hollins in ODAC Semifinals

ASHLAND, Va. – Hollins University took three closely contested doubles matches and earned wins in a pair of singles matches as the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team saw its season come to an end in a 5-0 loss in the semifinal round of the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Tennis Championships.

In top flight doubles action, the duo of Katy Bergey and Katie Gordon pushed the Montoya sisters to the limit before falling by a tight 8-6 tally.

At number two, the tandem of Olivia Stone and Brittany Wilson fell by the same 8-6 score to hand Hollins a 2-0 lead.

Hollins pushed its match lead to 3-0 with an 8-5 win over the Eagles' number three duo of Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer. The match was the final doubles affair in the record-setting careers of McConaughy and Schweitzer.

In singles play, sophomore Wilson dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at number three to get Hollins to within one win of the match victory.

Hollins closed things out at number four as Schweitzer fell by a 6-2, 6-1 tally, ending Bridgewater's season.

The matches at 1,2,5 and 6 singles went unfinished.

With the loss, Bridgewater wraps up the season with a 12-5 overall record.
