Eagles Open Fall Season at Shenandoah Invitational

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team opened its fall season this weekend with a solid performance at the Shenandoah Fall Invitational.

Play was held in eight singles flights and three doubles flights during the two-day event.

At No. 1 singles, Katie Gordon won two of her three matches with victories over Shenandoah's Molly Barb and Christopher Newport's Jodi Noland, both in straight sets.

Maria Hawkins made her collegiate debut and finished 3-0 at No. 2 singles. Hawkins had her closest match against Franklin & Marshall's Nicole Russo. Hawkins won 7-5, 7-6.

Brittany Wilson posted a 2-1 mark at No. 3 singles and Marla O'Bryan was 2-1 at the No, 4 singles slot. Jessie Mitchell finished 1-2 at No. 5 while freshman Holly Knupp posted a 2-1 mark at No. 6. At. No. 7, freshman Whitney Cash was 1-2 while Jamee Hardison won her only match at No. 8.

Gordon and Hawkins finished 2-1 at No. 1 doubles. The Eagles duo lost a close 9-7 match to the top pair from Franklin & Marshall.

At No. 2 doubles, Wilson and O'Bryan finished with a 2-1 record while Knupp and Mitchell posted a 2-1 mark at the No. 3 doubles slot.
