Ludtke Sets New BC Record In 10,000 Meters On Day 1 Of ODAC Championship Meet

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College women are in third place following the completion of first day competition at the ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet hosted by Lynchburg College.

Freshman distance runner Zanny Ludtke set a new Eagles' record in the 10,000 meters with a time of 39:57.31. Ludtke finished second in the event, less than two seconds behind Shenandoah's Dorothy Earner.

Senior Katie Cummings scored in two events Friday with a second in the shot put and a fourth in the hammer. Cummings tossed the shot 40 feet, 9 inches and threw the hammer 132 feet, 1.75 inches.

The Eagles picked up two spots in the long jump. Melanie Waters finished in a tie for fourth place with an effort of 16 feet, 6.25 inches and Kai-Lynn Stoker placed sxith at 16 feet, 3.25 inches.

BC picked up its final points in the field events when Jordan Pitchford cleared the bar at 4 feet, 11.5 inches to tie for second in the high jump.

Rounding out BC's scoring was Katie Notarangelo who placed sxith in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:52.96.

The Eagles also advanced two runners through the preliminaries to Saturday's finals. In the 100 meters Pitchford qualfied with the seventh-fastest time of 13.01 seconds. Elizabeth Stump qualfied for the 400 meters final with a time of 1:01.72 - the third-fastest time in the trials.

The Eagles finished the day with 30 points to trail Roanoke with 54.3 points and Shenandoah with 36 points.
