Eagles Split Day Two of Captains Classic

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Bridgewater College defeated Lasell College 3-0 in the first match of day two at the Captains Classic. The Eagles fell against Texas-Tyler 3-1 in the second match of the day at Christopher Newport University.

The Eagles swept Lasell in three sets by identical 25-15 scores.

Cat Snead and Megann Grimes represented the front row well with 12 kills for Snead and 13 for Grimes.

Senior setter Kylie Graham contributed 20 assists for the Eagles, while junior Lindsay Kallam dished out 10.

From the back row, the senior pair of Rebecca Claytor and Casey O'Leary picked up 14 and 12 digs, respectively, for the Eagles.

Texas-Tyler took the win in the nightcap by a 3-1 tally. The Eagles dropped the first set by a 25-13 tally before storming back to claim set two by a 25-23 margin. Texas-Tyler closed out the match with a 25-10 win in set three and a 25-18 victory in set four.

Snead and Grimes both put 10 kills on the board, while Katie Long was not far behind with 9.

O'Leary contributed 16 digs while Bethany Doman added 13.

The Eagles head on the road again Wednesday to Mary Washington. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start.
