Hearn Named Head Baseball Coach At Mary Baldwin

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Long-time Bridgewater College assistant baseball coach Scott Hearn has been named the new head coach at Mary Baldwin University.

Hearn will start the baseball program from scratch as the Squirrels' first head baseball coach. The team will begin play during the 2020 spring season as a club program and move to varsity status in 2021 in the USA South Athletic Conference.

"I am extremely honored to have been chosen to lead the baseball program at Mary Baldwin University. While I am very excited about this new chapter in my life, leaving Bridgewater College was not an easy decision," said Hearn. "Bridgewater College will always hold a special place in my heart as it has played such a huge role in making me the man I am today. I'm thankful for my time here at Bridgewater and will cherish it always."

Hearn has spent the past decade as an assistant coach for the Eagles. As an assistant, he was part of ODAC Championship seasons in 2010 and 2014 and part of three NCAA tournament teams in 2010, 2013 and 2014. He helped guide the 2014 team to the championship game of the NCAA South Regional where the Eagles lost to Emory University.

He also served as Bridgewater's Assistant Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance.

"We will certainly miss Scott's contributions to the baseball program and to our athletic department, but we are certainly excited to see him get the opportunity to become a head coach and run his own program," said Eagles' head baseball coach and Director of Athletics Curt Kendall. "Scott has been a big part of our success here at Bridgewater College, first as player and most recently as an assistant coach."

A 2003 Bridgewater graduate, Hearn was an All-ODAC performer in each of his four seasons as a player, earning first-team honors three times and second-team recognition once. He played on ODAC Championship teams in 2001 and 2002.

He still holds program career records for hits (235), runs batted in (165), doubles (54) and total bases (376).
