BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Mary Washington scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning Thursday to come from behind for a 6-3 victory over Bridgewater College in non-conference action.
The visitors scored one run in the top of the first inning and the score remained 1-0 until the Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning.
With two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the seventh, Jacob Grabeel walked and moved to third on a single by Jarrett Biesecker. When the throw from the outfield went to third base, Biesecker advanced to second, giving the Eagles two runners in scoring position. Both baserunners scored on Jacob Talley's double to deep left field, giving Bridgewater a 2-1 lead. Talley scored on a single up the middle by Luke Paczewski, making the score 3-1.
Bridgewater carried the lead to the ninth, but the Eagles were unable to hold on as Mary Washington rallied to score five runs to take the 6-3 victory.
Mary Washington starter Cole Gabriele went the distance to pick up the win, The lefty allowed three earned runs on eight hits.
Biesecker continued his torrid hitting from the leadoff spot with a 3-for-5 day at the plate. The freshman is 8-for-10 in two games this week, raising his average to .426, tops in the ODAC.
Bridgewater is back in action Saturday when it travels to Lynchburg for a key ODAC doubleheader with the Hornets.
