Natalie Ellis competes in USEA event,

FAIRBURN, Ga. - Bridgewater College competed at the USEA Intercollegiate Eventing Championships held May 18-19 at Chattahoochee Hills Horse Trials in Fairburn, Ga.

Bridgewater had two riders competing, Natalie Ellis at the Preliminary Level and Connor Poe at the Novice Level.  BC riders competed on a scramble team paired with two riders from the University of Georgia, Jessica Simons at Novice and Sierra Shurtz at Beginner Novice.

Scores are individually formulated as penalty amassed from the dressage, cross country jumping and show jumping phases.  Depending on the level of the rider a coefficient is applied to the score to reflect the difficulty of the level.  All scores are added then the coefficient is applied.  The top three scores are counted for the team score.

Both Bridgewater riders were counting scores, unfortunately each of our riders had a stop at a cross country jumping fence adding 20 penalty points to their strong dressage scores with no points added for clear show jumping results.

The Bridgewater College/University of Georgia team placed 17th in the 21-team competition, representing 28 colleges and universities from as far away as Texas.

Standing on the a podium actually used at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games were Auburn University taking the gold with two teams from the University of Kentucky bringing home silver and bronze.
