BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater attack exploded early against St. Mary's, scoring twice in the opening six minutes of a 4-1 victory.
Courtney Cooke scored twice for Bridgewater, with Jacqueline DiFulvio adding three assists. Emily Matisons had a goal and an assist in the win.
After scoring just once in their opening three games, the Eagles struck four times before the break.
Matisons intercepted a clearance and gave the Eagles the lead in the fourth minute of play. Just over two minutes later, Cooke finished off a pass from DiFulvio on a penalty corner for a quick 2-0 scoreline.
The Eagles would go on to convert two more corners in the first half.
Laura Gretz scored off Matisons' stick-stop for a 3-0 lead, with DiFulvio picking up another assist. Cooke then scored from Georgia Howard's stick-stop, giving DiFulvio a trio of helpers in the half and putting the Eagles up 4-1 at halftime.
St. Mary's had pulled one back through Emily Pulkowski, but Cooke answered less than two minutes later to make it 4-1.
Elizabeth Washington nearly gave the Eagles a fifth in the second half, with Nicole Letora recording the defensive save.
Sophomores Ali Bishop and Emily Witzke split the shutout in goal.
Bridgewater (1-3) will play its home opener tomorrow at 2 p.m. vs. McDaniel.
