BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Shenandoah pulled away in the third quarter as the Bridgewater College field hockey team fell 4-0 on Wednesday evening in ODAC play.

Kassandra Boucher hit a shot from outside the circle in the first quarter and Meredyth Rankin tried to redirect it in. The ball ended up in the cage, but Rankin was ruled to have not made contact on a very close play.

Emily Witzke (13 saves) made a sliding stop on Lindsey Florio on the game's first shot, and then made a blocker save up high to deny Lauren Tyre in the first quarter.

Six minutes in, Allison Thompson played a great pass in to Meghan Obaugh, whose shot was partially saved and slowed up before reaching the goalline.

Witzke made a good save on Kelsey Jones on a corner early in the second quarter, before the Hornets opened the scoring as Hannah Mink got to the sideline and crossed to Taylor Hayes for the goal.

Hayes' slap shot off a penalty corner made it 2-0 early in the third quarter.

Jones would then assist two more SU goals in the third, the final one coming on another penalty corner, to make it 4-0 Hornets heading into the final 15 minutes.

Caroline Quigley nearly scored off a rebound on a corner late in the third quarter, but drew a defensive save from Hayes. Emily Jencks forced consecutive solid stops from Isabella Morande early in the final period.

Bridgewater (3-9, 1-1 ODAC) will travel to Roanoke on Tuesday.
