Eagles Pull Away From Wilson In Second Half

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater outscored Wilson College 58--23 in the second half Tuesday night to pull away for a 95-56 victory in non-conference action at Nininger Hall.

The visiting Phoenix connected on 8-of-16 attempts from 3-point range and trailed by just five points, 37-32, at the break. 

The second half was a different story, however, as the Eagles dominated all facets of the game. Bridgewater shot 57.5 percent (23-of-40) from the field in the second half, including 8-of-20 from 3-point range. The Eagles held a 26-18 edge on the boards in the second half and forced 11 Wilson turnovers while committing just five. 

Bridgewater also dominated bench scoring by a 62-15 margin as four reserves reached double figures. Ken Stanciel posted a double-double off the bench, leading the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Chandler Murray added 16 points, followed by Davrion Grier with 13 and TJ Turner with 11. Starters Dimetri Chambers with 13 points and Josh Cammon with 10 also reached double figures. 

The Eagles had 24 assists on 36 made shots and turned the ball over just nine times. Cammon led the Eagles with five assists, followed by Jimmie Sanders and Stanciel, each with four. Bridgewater also controlled the boards by a 51-42 margin. In addition to Stanciel's 10 rebounds, Murray grabbed nine boards and Cammon finished with eight.

The Phoenix stayed within striking distance early in the second half, trailing by seven, 50-43, with 14:25 left in the game. Bridgewater then took control with a 16-1 run over the next four minutes to open up a 66-44 lead.

Cammon started the run with two free throws and a bucket by Stanciel in traffic pushed the margin to double figures, 54-43. Stanciel and Grier combined for the next seven points before a layup by Cammon made the score 63-53. Grier capped the 16-1 run with a three-point play to put the Eagles on top 66-44 at the midway point of the second half. 

With the victory, the Eagles improve to 2-3 on the season. Bridgewater is back in action Saturday afternoon when the Eagles host Frostburg State in non-conference play. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
