Eagles Hold Off SVU for 13-10 Victory

BUENA VISTA, Va. –
The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team held off a fourth quarter rally by the hosts, beating Southern Virginia University 13-10 on Saturday.

After each recorded a multi-goal performance vs. Ferrum on Thursday, Sean MacLeish, Blake Mann and Chris Voorhees all had a hat trick by halftime.

Voorhees finished with five goals and an assist, Mann scored five times, and MacLeish added three goals and one assist. Derrick Daniels and Daniel Brown each had three assists.

Despite racing to a 10-5 lead at the break, Bridgewater scored just three times in the second half as SVU made things interesting early in the fourth quarter.

After Zach Danneman struck in the final seconds of the third, the Knights stretched their run to four goals in a span of 3:41 to cut the Eagle lead down to three with 11:22 still remaining.

Bridgewater's Nick Strider won the next faceoff however, as the Eagles were ultimately able to ride out the rest of the game with Andrew Buss recording two of his six saves in the process.

After SVU had cancelled out an early 2-0 BC lead and then tied it up again at 3-3, the Eagles opened it up with consecutive man-up goals.

After the Knights went offsides, Voorhees finished off a Brown pass for a lead that BC would never relinquish.

Strider won the faceoff and the Knights were flagged for a slash, with Brown finding Voorhees again for a second goal in 27 seconds.

Bridgewater made SVU pay for penalties in the second quarter as well. MacLeish scored man-up from Daniels for a 7-3 lead, and Brown found Mann on the power play for a 9-4 scoreline.

Paxton Kimber scored twice for the hosts while also totaling five ground balls and two caused turnovers. SVU goalie Ian Arave had 13 saves.

Bridgewater (2-1) will have its home opener next Saturday, at 1 p.m. vs. Wesley College.
