FERRUM, Va. – Daniel Brown struck in overtime as the Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team edged Ferrum 11-10 on Wednesday.
Ferrum goalie Koby McMahon got a piece of Eric Husselbaugh's shot in overtime and the Panthers briefly had possession. The hosts turned it over however, and Ryan McHugh found Brown in front of the cage for the winner.
Bridgewater led 10-8 with three minutes left but Ferrum rallied late. Chase Tallon scored off a failed clear, and the Eagles committed a pushing penalty right off the faceoff.
BC killed off the penalty, but Ferrum kept possession and Tallon assisted Kyle Lister to tie the game. The Panthers had a chance in the final 20 seconds, with Eagle goalie Kevin Metzger (13 saves) stopping Tyler Fullem's attempt.
Sean MacLeish totaled five points on three goals and two assists, while Eric Husselbaugh also had a hat trick. Brown scored twice and McHugh had a goal and two assists.
Freshman Mason Gauntt won 16-of-21 faceoffs and totaled 10 ground balls. James Georgoff caused two turnovers.
Bridgewater trailed 6-3 in the second quarter but closed the period with a goal from McHugh.
The Eagles were down by three again in the third quarter after a Jacob Boswell goal, before closing the quarter on a 5-0 run.
Two MacLeish goals sandwiched a MacLeish assist to Husselbaugh, tying the game at 7-7. Jake Pangle gave Bridgewater the lead, and Brown increased the gap to 9-7 heading into the fourth.
The Eagles improve to 2-0, and will host Marymount on Saturday. Ferrum (0-3) was playing their first home game under new head coach Michael Baggetta, a 2017 Bridgewater assistant.
