Men's Lacrosse Loses at #16 W&L

LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington & Lee totaled 68 shots as the Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell 18-4 to the 16th-ranked Generals on Saturday night.

Hunter Bagby made 20 saves in the cage and also picked up three ground balls. Jake Truman had a team-high five ground balls along with a caused turnover.

The Eagles trailed by just one after the opening quarter and struck first as senior captain Jacob Clemmer scored his first collegiate goal 62 seconds into the contest.

Hunter Callan tied it at 2-2 in the fifth minute of action, and BC trailed 3-2 after the first as neither team tallied over the final 9:34 of the opening quarter.

W&L scored four straight in the second quarter to open up a 7-2 lead. Eric Husselbaugh beat the buzzer with an unassisted goal to send the Eagles into halftime down by just four.

Bridgewater's attack was kept at bay in the third quarter however, recording just one shot on goal. Bagby made six saves in the period for Bridgewater, but late goals from Ben Hulholland and Hudson Hamill gave W&L a 10-3 lead heading into the fourth.

Callan assisted Sean MacLeish for Bridgewater's lone goal in the fourth quarter.

A.J. Witherell totaled five goals and two assists for the Generals, while Taylor Witherell had four caused turnovers and four ground balls. W&L won 20-of-24 faceoffs, led by a perfect 10-for-10 performance by Jack Hodgson.

Bridgewater is 5-2, 0-2 ODAC and will travel to William Peace on Thursday.
